DimDimSum 딤딤섬, A Taste of Hong Kong’s Timeless Dim Sum

A Brief History of DimDimSum

DimDimSum originated in Hong Kong and quickly became a favorite among locals and tourists. Known for its authentic and accessible Cantonese cuisine, the restaurant set out to modernize traditional dim sum without losing its soul. It wasn’t just about food—it was about capturing the spirit of Hong Kong’s bustling teahouses in a contemporary setting. Today, DimDimSum has multiple branches across Asia, including several in Seoul, where it continues to serve up comforting, flavorful bites to a loyal following.

My DimSum Journey: From Hong Kong to Seoul

My first encounter with DimDimSum happened over 15 years ago during a trip to Hong Kong. I still remember how impressed I was—I visited three times in just five days. Back then, the idea of eating those same dishes in Seoul felt impossible. Years later, when DimDimSum finally opened in Korea, I was thrilled. Of course, the ambiance here is different—sleek malls and modern interiors replace Hong Kong’s gritty charm—but the flavors still remind me of those delicious memories. For me, eating at DimDimSum is more than just satisfying a craving; it’s a nostalgic journey.

Locations & Wait Times

DimDimSum has several branches in Seoul, including Gangnam (Parnas Tower), Banpo (Central City), COEX, Myeongdong, and Lotte World Mall. Each location features a clean, modern dining space with quick service once you’re seated.

However, be prepared for a wait—especially during lunch and dinner hours. At some locations, you may wait up to an hour or more during peak times. If you’re planning to visit, aim for off-peak hours or be ready to put your name on the waitlist and shop around while you wait. The food is worth it.

Final Thoughts: Why I Keep Coming Back

DimDimSum may not be the trendiest new place in town, but it remains one of my favorites because of what it represents—comfort, consistency, and a connection to past travels. The food is always dependable, the flavors balanced, and the atmosphere welcoming. Even if newer, more experimental dim sum places pop up in Seoul, I know I’ll return to DimDimSum again and again.

Sometimes, the best meals aren’t about discovering something new—they’re about remembering something meaningful. For me, that’s exactly what DimDimSum delivers.
